On Wednesday 13 November, we reviewed the results of our first photographic Challenge of the 2024-25 season.

The challenge was set by our esteemed Programme Secretaries and was “Cutlery”.

Briefing notes in the Club Programme added:

  • “For this challenge you can use anything that you would use to eat with (not chopsticks or fingers!).
  • It can be one coffee spoon or a whole canteen of cutlery – the choice is yours!
  • The cutlery can be in use or not, but it must be the main focus of your images.”

The whole purpose of our challenges is of course to get us taking new pictures, not merely plucking images from our back catalogues.  The subject for this location was announced on 16 October and the deadline for submitting our two images was 1 November.  So, as usual, we had to hasten to take, select and process our images, and get them in.

36 projected images were submitted .  There was no “critique”, as such, as the Challenge was intended as “a safe environment to try out something new without fear of ridicule or harsh comments”.

So, after a quick “run through” of the images to gauge the overall standard, members were invited to mark each image on a scale from 0 to 5.

The submitted images demonstrated a great variety of subjects and approaches.  And, following some heroic addition by Emma aggregating all the scoresheets, the top five images were as follows:
