The judging of the seventeenth Two Hemispheres International Competition has been completed and the results can now be revealed.

The Two Hemispheres is an annual bilateral photographic competition between LBPC in the UK and Camberwell Camera Club in Melbourne, Australia.

Since the competition started in 2009, LBPC have previously won six times, Camberwell nine times, and there has been one dead heat.

Each club enters 30 PDIs.  Images are selected from 30 different members to give as many people as possible the chance to participate in an international competition.

All the images are judged both in the UK and in Australia.  Each entry is scored out of twenty and all the scores (from both the UK and the Australia judges) are aggregated to determine the winning club.

The competition is an “open” competition and the 60 entries this year presented – as they always do – a wide variety of subjects, approaches, styles, and genres.

Our independent UK judge was – for the fifth year – Dave Hipperson from Park Street Camera Club (at Bricket Wood), an experienced photographer and a CACC judge since 2012.  He provided his critiques and scores live at our meeting on Wednesday 25 February.

The independent Australia judge was Ian Coombs, a past President and the current Vice President of Waverley Camera Club (also in Melbourne).  He is an accredited photography judge with the Australian Photographic Judges Association and has a keen interest in outdoor and wildlife photography, landscape, street photography, and photojournalism.

Ian’s comments and scores were revealed, along with the UK judge’s comments and scores, at the Camberwell CC meeting on Monday 9 March.

After all the judging was completed and all the scores totalled, the result was as below.

  UK Judge Australia Judge Totals
Leighton Buzzard PC 466 marks 489 marks 955 marks
Camberwell CC 478 marks 474 marks 952 marks

.

The winners of the Two Hemispheres International Competition 2025, therefore, are Leighton Buzzard – by a mere three marks!
