On Wednesday 26 November we hosted the annual Three Counties Panel Competition.

We were representing Bedfordshire.  Imagez Camera Club (in Weston Turville) represented Bucks and Tring & District Camera Club represented Herts.

Entries for this inter-club competition had to consist of three to six digital images, combined into a single projectable image, to be judged as a panel.  The aim as ever is to produce a panel that is greater than the sum of its parts.

This was an open (ie, with no set subject) competition.  But the images needed to show some link identifiable by the judge.  45 panels were entered, 15 from each club.

As always, they covered a very wide range of subjects, genres, and styles.  There were abstracts, architecture, plants, still life, landscapes (both broad and intimate), birds, travel, creative, night, re-enactment, and more – and both colour and monochrome.

Our independent judge for the competition was Peter Greenway CPAGB LRPS, an award-winning commercial photographer with wide-ranging photographic interests.  He is a member of Kidlington Camera Club Photo Group and Witney Photo Group, as well as a CACC judge.  He warned us “I am quite a picky judge!”.  He said he was looking for technical consistency, a clear link between the images, and the “whole versus the individual images” (ie, how they all worked together).

Peter went through all the panels, critiquing each one.  Then he went through his “held back” images.

Points were then awarded for “placed”, highly commended, and commended images (5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 points, respectively).

After Peter’s detailed critiques and thoughtful deliberations, the results were as below.
