Last Wednesday (10 January) we hosted Amersham PS, Woodley PC, and Harrow CC on Zoom in Round 2 of the annual CACC (Chilterns Association of Camera Clubs) Rosebowl Competition.
(Under the Rosebowl rules, all rounds of the competition are now run online.)
The Rosebowl is the CACC’s premier inter-club competition. It is a Projected Digital Images competition and consists of a series of three “rounds”, run from October to February, in which random groups of three or four clubs are matched against each other.
For each match, each club submits 15 images. The images are marked out of 20 and, after all the images have been marked, points are allocated to each of the clubs according to their order by marks awarded – 5, 3, 2, and 1 points for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place respectively.
The twelve CACC clubs with the most points after all three rounds then contest the Rosebowl Final.
25 clubs are participating in the Rosebowl this season. LBPC reached the Final last year, finishing equal seventh.
The judge for this event was Amanda Wright, the External Competitions Secretary of Ealing & Hampshire House Photographic Society (founded in 1890, this is one of the oldest photographic societies in the world) and an experienced CACC judge.
After Amanda had carefully considered and marked all the images (holding back 19 originally!), the marks were aggregated and verified on the spreadsheets and the results were as follows
- 1st – Amersham PS with 274 marks – 5 points
- =2nd – Leighton Buzzard PC with 266 marks – 2.5 points
- =2nd – Woodley PC with 266 marks – 2.5 points
- 4th – Harrow CC with 241 marks – 1 point
The top scoring images were
- “Contemplating” by Brian Gough (Amersham PS) – 20 marks plus a star
- “Male Banded Demoiselle on Reeds” by Bob Collis (Woodley PC) – 20 marks
- “Samual” by Sanjay Mistry (Harrow CC) – 20 marks
- “Short Eared Owl Hunting in Early Winter” by Brian Ridgley (Amersham PS) – 20 marks
- “Tin Man Alley” by David Manning (Leighton Buzzard PC) – 20 marks
- “Dalmatian Pelican” by Gill Alport (Amersham PS) – 20 marks plus a star
- “The Fly” – by Avril Chandler Sharp (Harrow CC) – 20 marks
The Final will take place live (ie, not run online) in Amersham at the CACC Rosebowl Day on Sunday 21 April 2024.
