Our annual, and prestigious, Portfolio Competition took place on Wednesday 12 February.

This is an open subject competition, in colour or monochrome.  But the images must show some link – such as a common colour, subject or shape – identifiable by the judge.

Entries consist of three to six prints or digital images to be judged as a panel.  (For digital images this means combining the pictures into a single projectable image.)  The aim is to produce a panel that is greater than the sum of its parts.

There are separate print and digital image competitions.  Full details of the entry requirements can be found on the Club Internal Competitions page of the website, under the Print Panel and PDI Panel tabs.

The portfolios entered covered many creative styles and subjects (including colour and black & white, abstract, animals and birds, landscape, seascape, street, portrait, architecture, travel, trains, old cars, motor sport, smoke, and tractor wheels).  And they were presented in a great variety of different arrangements.

Our independent judge for the competition was Colin Mill from MK City Photographic Society, a very experienced photographer and CACC judge.  He has judged competitions at LBPC on numerous occasions.  He is a prolific amateur photographer who although primarily a landscape photographer is equally at home photographing almost anything.

He indicated that the key point for him was that the images had to work together as a panel – “it’s the overall effect that matters most”.

After Colin’s detailed critiques and thoughtful deliberations, the results were as below.
