The annual Portfolio Competition took place on Zoom on Wednesday 6 April. As print handling was impracticable in the circumstances pertaining at the start of the season (Covid etc), print competitions were suspended. Our competitions this season have therefore been confined to digital images.
Entries for this competition must consist of three to five pictures to be judged as a panel. For digital images this means combining the pictures (sized and positioned as required) into a single projectable image. This is an “open” competition, with no set subject, but the pictures must show some link – such as a common colour, subject or shape – identifiable by the judge. Full details of the entry requirements can be found in the Members part of the website on the “Club Competitions Rules for Entry” page, under the “Portfolio Competition” tab.
Our independent judge for the competition was Martin Patten LRPS DPAGB EFIAP BPE5. Martin is a professional photographer based in Hertfordshire, the Chairman of the Chilterns Association of Camera Clubs, and a past President of Watford Camera Club. He has judged for LBPC on numerous occasions.
There were 31 entries for this competition. The portfolios entered covered all manner of subjects and styles (including still life, minimalist, abstract, architecture, urban/industrial, landscape, travel, flowers, and both colour and black and white). And the groups of digital images were presented in many different arrangements.
The results were
- 1st place – “Number 8” by John Curd
- 2nd place – “Old Yellow Citroen” by David Manning
- 3rd place – “Inside Sydney Opera House” by Tim Gould
- Highly Commended – “Seedheads” by Patrick Linford

- Highly Commended – “Up Up and Away” by Terry Godber
