Our first Chairman’s Challenge of the new season took place on Zoom on Wednesday 14 October.

The subject of the Challenge was “2020 Vision”.

As explained in the Programme, this meant:

“Your interpretation of the phrase 2020 Vision.
What does the year 2020 mean to you?  Has Covid affected your lifestyle?
Or the urban slang term for hindsight, could you have approached your photography differently?  If so how, what pictures would you have taken.
Or literally, you might interpret the term 20/20 vision as it’s used to express normal sight (the clarity or sharpness of vision).
This is a tricky challenge but it’s the only year (2020) that we can use this term and you have free reign to interpret it however you want.”

Our independent judge for this informal digital image competition was Kathy Chantler ARPS, the Chairman of Imagez Camera Club in Weston Turville.  She is an experienced judge and no stranger to LBPC.

Each entry was critiqued with Kathy selecting the First, Second and Third place images. Where Kathy felt that un-placed images warrented a commendation she awarded either ‘Highly Commended’ or ‘Commended’ awards.

  • 1st place – “The Enemy Without” by Mike Kitchingman

  • 2nd place – “Lockdown” by Jon Cruise

  • 3rd place – “John Lewis Cafeteria” by Mike Kitchingman

  • Highly Commended – “Where Do We Go From Here” by Malcolm Wright

  • Highly Commended – “NHS 2020” by Jon Cruise

  • Commended – “Lockdown Bubbles” by Sally Kitchingman

  • Commended – “New Skills Learnt – Textures” by Wendy Taylor

  • Commended – “Working Out From Home” by Patrick Linford

So, the Chairman’s Challenge was won by, er, the Chairman!  Who also appointed the judge!

Congratulations Chairman Mike.  Great image!

Just as well there was no prize on offer this time.

As for the rest of us, it was a fun evening with plenty of intriguing images reflecting people’s lives in these “interesting times”.  And we are all so looking forward to the next Chairman’s Challenge.
