Welcome Back

Last Wednesday (16 September), after a brief introduction from Chairman Tim Gould, we kicked off the new photographic season with our traditional informal “welcome back” show of “what we did on our holidays” pictures.

Members were able to see what others had been up to during the summer – this year billed as “summer pictures featuring wild life”.

As ever, there was a profusion of creative and imaginative images for everyone to enjoy – with some very free interpretations of “wild life”.

There were pictures from locations far and near – as widely spread as the USA, London, Spain, Scotland, Norwich, Iceland, Brighton, the Thames Estuary, Ireland, and of course Leighton Buzzard and the surrounding area.

All sorts of genres were represented – colour, monochrome, street/candid, wildlife, landscapes, seascapes, travel, composite, still life, and so forth.  And there was an extensive array of subject matter.

Animals (mostly real, but some as models or other representations) included deer, koi carp, snails, insects (such as bees, flies, and damselflies), horses, and fungi, as well as various birds (herons, gulls, owls, woodpeckers, pigeons, puffins, and more).  And there were also all sorts of people – dancers, mods, chefs, stilt-walkers, cyclists, and a heavily tattooed man – not to mention a variety of flowers.  In addition, there were some pictures with no wild life at all.

So, something for everyone!

Accordingly, we all enjoyed a veritable feast of marvellous images of many varieties.

It was also good to catch up again with old friends, talk photography, and gossip.  So, with plenty of images to admire and all the related stories to enjoy, this was as always an excellent way to start the season.
